UPVC Windows vs Aluminium Windows: Which Is Better for Wellington Homes? - Glazing 360

Why are uPVC profiles replacing aluminum? The reason is simple: uPVC profiles are superior in every way. We often hear concerns about the fragility of a house’s structure and its inability to support its basic structure. Rotting and termite infestation are common problems with wooden profiles. Aluminum profiles face even more significant challenges.

Here are some of the disadvantages of aluminum profiles vs. uPVC profiles:

No Corrosion and Dents:
Aluminum profiles rust and corrode when exposed to air. The aluminum oxide (aluminum oxide) on the metal profile’s surface forms a white, powdery coating. Over time, these profiles become brittle, damaged, and crumble. Made from polymers and additives, uPVC profiles are corrosion-resistant. They also have a high composite strength, which prevents severe dents.

Stain and Water Resistant:
Aluminum is not resistant to stains. Water and dust easily splash onto its surface, making these stains difficult to remove. Compared to uPVC profiles, its structural properties make it water-resistant. Its excellent polishing properties prevent particles from sticking, while its anti-stain feature makes cleaning uPVC profiles simple.

Due to their high maintenance costs, these profiles aren’t ideal for visual aesthetics. In contrast, uPVC offers a wide range of colors, coordinates well with similar fixtures, and offers lower maintenance costs.

Compared to wood or other polymers, aluminum can be dull and limited in color. However, uPVC alternatives offer stunning finishes and vibrant colors.

Easy to customize and energy-efficient:
Aluminum profiles aren’t ideal. The entire process, from manufacturing to construction, can be costly. Metal forming and welding require specialized equipment and qualified workers to ensure proper execution. uPVC profiles are undoubtedly cost-effective and energy-efficient. Besides being 100% recyclable, their production requires very little energy. Processing is simple, allowing for maximum customization at a low cost.

Ideal for extreme temperatures:
As a metal, aluminum conducts heat well, which is not ideal at high temperatures. Meanwhile, uPVC provides trouble-free operation in all weather conditions. It reflects sunlight and offers excellent thermal insulation. These profiles are ideal for air conditioning units. Furthermore, in humid conditions, aluminum frames can cause condensation and even ice to form on the inner surface of windows, leading to various problems. UPVC, on the other hand, eliminates the risk of condensation.
